AIR displays from an RAF Spitfire and Dakota will form part of the entertainment at this year’s Hoylake Lifeboat Open Day.

Taking place on Hoylake Promenade on August Bank Holiday Monday, August 26, the annual event raises much-needed funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.

As well as aerial displays there will be charity stalls, kite flying, Zumba dancing and a “Roll the dice and win a VW car” are just some of the attractions along the promenade.

The lifeboat from West Kirby and the hovercraft from New Brighton along with the Hoylake Lifeboat will all be on display.

The boathouse will be open for the sale of souvenirs, refreshments and Christmas cards. The promenade is closed to traffic.

Last year almost 20,000 turned out for the event, raising £20,000 for the RNLI..

Organiser Carole Jackson said: “It’s not going to be as big as when we had the Red Arrows performing, but we are still expecting crowds to turn up.

“We’ve got no funding at all from the council because of cutbacks, which has restricted us a little bit.

“However, people have been so generous with their help and donation, particularly with letting the Dakota and Spitfire fly past.

“Open Day is a real team effort from lifeboat crew, partners, helpers and committee members - everyone has a part to make sure the day runs smoothly.”

The event takes place from 10am to 6pm and admission is free.
